S a p p o r o 1

Our trip to Hokkaido began in the mood of high & low. This is our first trip to Hokkaido and we were very excited. I have taken much effort to plan this trip as we would be driving in the harsh winter roads. I have familiarised myself with the routes so that we would not be lost. Beside being our 1st trip there, there were many firsts that we would be experiencing. This is our road trip.
On a sad note, we left our home with a heavy heart because my Oscar is sick as he was diagnosed with kidney failure. Even with the recommended treatment, his conditions did not recover by our departure date. We hospitalised him throughout our 2 weeks trip which caused him a lot of stress that almost killed him. That was a bad decision I deeply regretted. Thank God he survived, though he burnt a huge hole in our pockets many times over. Well, we can always earn back the money, but there is only one Oscar.
Due to a snow blizzard, our plane has to turn back before we could land at Chitose Airport. We returned to Narita and I found my solace in Kit Kat.
The weather was better the next day, and we were able to finally land in Hokkaido. Train ride from Chitose to Sapporo.
A character in the underpass of Sapporo city.
Sapporo White Illumination at Odori Park.
The lights and cold weather gave the night a romantic feel.
We were wondering where everyone was as the streets were quiet..
..and we found out later the crowd was using the underpass to escape from the cold.
In order to see the beautiful lights, we have to brave the cold. We were not disappointed.
Munich Christmas Market in Sapporo is an annual event where stalls of Christmas goodies, food and drinks (from Munich) were set up.
Locals and tourists visit the fare to savour the atmosphere and the food.
Sending Christmas cards is never out-dated.
 Colourful Christmas ornaments.
 A souvenir to bring home.
 Almonds coated in different flavours.
But it was too sweet for my likings.
 The Bratwurst is so tasty.
 Almost everyone is buying one.
 Wooden figurines
Russian dolls in a Munich fare?
Regardless, it was everyone's favourite stall.
 Hanging dolls.
The dolls are beautiful, and it is hard to pick one.
So are these houses.
 One for the Christmas tree.
More handywork
After all the walking, it is time to fill the stomach.

Although we got into Sapporo late and wasted half a day (because of the snow storm), we did not miss much of our itinerary. We have planned to take it easy on our stay here and would pick up the pace when we travel out the day after tomorrow. That would be when we rent the car and travel out from the city.

And another travel trip awaiting....
