L a k e T o y a

The sight of Nakajima in winter has got to be the most beautiful and mythical view on Lake Toya. I was so lucky to find a lodge offering a lake view at an affordable rate, and we had a wonderful night stay there.
On our way to Lake Toya, we made a stopover at this farmhouse that apparently sells excellent ice-cream. Unfortunately for us, they don't serve that in winter.
But I still get my coffee fixed and had the tasty cheesecake.
Wide open field covered in snow.
Arriving at the entrance of the lodge. Interesting decorations.
Some welcoming staff.
Felt like we were in a Disney park.
The large lodge with two double beds and an attic. Good enough for 5 guests at least.
Inside the main lodge. Owner is a big fan of the wild wild west.
Real gun collections on the wall.
Wood carvings decorated throughout the lodge, and they are for sale.
Something for your wall?
When Jack Sparrow visits.
This moose is apparently real.
Not this owl definitely.
Our mouthwatering dinner menu. Had my first Ratatouille. Excellent!
Our long dinner was served next to a 'fireplace', and we had the whole dinner room to ourselves.
Owner's resident cat. He has a Hitler's moustache.
Sharon felt sorry for them as they were not allowed inside.

This is the view from our lodge. Simply breathtaking.

In b&w.
In dramatic tone

  With fisheye lens.
The view took a different perspective in the day.
A clearer view of Nakajima
Icicles formed overnight.

Although Lake Toya offers a spectacular view from inland, there isn't much things to do in winter. In other seasons, you could cruise the pleasure boat to Nakajima or visit the museums and parks. One attraction not to be missed is Mount Usu, an active volcano. That is our next stop.

And another travel trip awaiting....
