I have heard so much of Otaru and often read that it is a must-visit place in Hokkaido. As it is not too far from Sapporro, we stopped over for a night stay there.

This is our room view.

All decked and no where to go. Not in winter at least.

The town centre of Otaru.

Guess it snowed enough the night before.

Santa garland.

Looking through the glass.

Cat accessories.

Musical box of all music genre.

Santa is going on a ride, but where are the rein deers?

Otter design manhole cover.

A place of worship.
One of the many warehouses turned restaurants, museums or shops.

The typical canal-warehouse-snow view.

When night falls, a romantic mood comes alive.

The sacred cross contrasting against the dark sky.

As we stroll, the snow started to fall...

...and the crowd began to dwindle.
Soon it was time to go home.
Otaru is a small town and it only took us a day to see all of it. I have expected it to be prettier in winter but being in early December, there is not enough snow to make it really white. I read that in February, the canal would 'come alive' at night with brightly lit snowmen littered along it. Too bad we were early for that, but there is always another visit.
And another travel trip awaiting....
