My original plan was to climb Seongsan Ilchulbong before dawn so that we could watch sunrise at its best locale. But without the car, I have to throw the idea out of the window.
Instead, we set forth the climb after lunch, as we needed the exercise to burn off the calories.
Slowly, we ascend....step by step.
It doesn't look that high, but as we climb, our knees started to buckle.
Resting point, and expressing a moment of relief. MIL has stopped climbing earlier.
After 40min, we reached the top. Thank goodness there are seats.
Only 180m tall, but it was a challenge for some.
On top of Seongsan Ilchulbong is a 600m wide crater. I believe the volcanic tuff cone is still active.
Diorama of the village below.
Spotted a cruise ship in the distance.
Workers pruning on the crater edge.
Making our descend, and hopefully the knees do not give way.
Something interesting is going on down there.
Ah, it is a resting place for food and drinks. A welcoming joy.
Here's a parting shot of those who conquered the climb.
Although I did not get to see the sunrise view that Seongsan Ilchulbong is famous for, I still manage to capture the surrounding beautiful view that it offered. Minus the cloudy weather and grey setting, I was satisfied with the adventures that we had.
I later learnt that a colleague of mine had passed away the same afternoon. He suffered a cardiac arrest and despite efforts to resuscitate him, he did not make it. This brought a sad note to my day. Although it is difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, we may look back in memory to help comfort our tomorrow.
RIP, Ah Gu....
