We left Dingle for Killarney, and we took the Ring of Kerry route. The Ring of Kerry has become a major attraction with tour buses carrying eager visitors around this route every day. The total distance of 170km is dotted with attractions and colourful villages and towns.
This route took us including the car on a ferry to Valentia Island. We boarded the ferry from Reenard Point for a short journey across.
Approaching the drop-off jetty at Valentia
We were hoping to take a boat from the Skellig Experience Centre to visit the Skellig Islands.
The Skellig Experience is a must see attraction for all visitors to Kerry County. Unfortunately, the operator told us there would not be a boat out due to bad weather.
Look at the weather, it was sunny & bright. We deduced that because there were only four of us, they would not want to ferry us there. Crap!
We drove further and come across this lookout point that offered a wonderful view of the coast. Skellig Islands are faintly noticeable on the background.
The islands are on the right.
World Heritage Site of Skellig Michael on the right along with Small Skellig. There live a large colony of gannet & puffin populations, and a monastery perched high on Skellig Michael.
Another lookout point before we moved inland.
Arriving at the town of Killarney.
Interesting sightseeing transport, versus the usual coaches.
Shops lined the street so we spent awhile here.
House of lace & knits, mostly in white.
Love the multi-coloured facade
Local arts freely displayed to draw in the crowd
Another day past. We spent the night at Kenmare Bay Hotel & Resort in this cosy double storey family home that come with bedrooms, living & a kitchen. We were so sick of eating out so we bought food from the supermarket to cook it ourselves. The girls did a great job preparing the food. The driver is excused from working :)
And another travel trip awaiting....
