W a k a y a m a 1

She is the reason why we were in Japan - Tama, the Super Station Master. The story of Tama and how she single handedly turned around the fate of Kishi Station is like a fairy tale. Unfortunately, Typhoon Talas has to strike this time of the year, and at Wakayama. We were afraid our trip would be wasted when we heard how bad the typhoon has devastated the prefecture. Nevertheless, we are cat lovers, and would not pass up the chance to see Tama who is such an adorable cat.
After checking with the train station, we were lucky to know that the route to Kishi Station is not closed. But Tama is not available today, and we were told to visit her tomorrow. Thank goodness we have 2 days here.
Since we could not see Tama, we decided to visit the city.
I am always fascinated by the fresh produce in the Japanese supermarket.
Be prepared to pay for the quality though.
We love the Japanese crackers and nuts.
Many shops were closed due to the typhoon.
And not many residents take to the street either.
The city of Wakayama was like a dead town.
We needed to pass the day so we checked out Wakayama Castle.
Entering from the north gate of the castle ground.
Keeping some fishes happy with whatever food we have.
 Not a soul in sight.
7 lucky stones garden? Anyone has a better translation?
 Side view of the castle.
The history of the castle dates back to 1585.
Proof of our visit to the castle.
The castle is opened to the public for a small fee.
 Armours on display.
 Historical artifacts.
View as seem from the castle top.
 Diorama effect
The park surrounding the castle is known to be beautiful in spring, especially the cherry blossom season.
Stop peeping and let sleeping dog lie.

I personally find Wakayama City a very quiet town. We thought of venturing further into the city, but decided against it. Nothing has so far been attractive with most of the shops closed(at mid-day?!). If it had not just been hit by a typhoon, I am sure the town would be bustling with activities. Perhaps we could give it another chance next time.

And another travel trip awaiting....
