We saw SQ's promotion on Osaka and took the opportunity to fly there for a few days holiday in September. It also allowed me to test my new Olympus EP3, which has become my main camera after I sold off the Nikon. I have taken a fancy to the art filters feature, and have taken many shots using it. Other then simple cropping and brightening, I have not done major processing on the photos. I believe the OOC jpegs are good enough for me.
Together with our good friends, we arrived at Kansai Airport and took a train to Kyoto.
Arriving at Kyoto Station.
We arrived at the time when Japan was hit by Typhoon Talas. We were worried the bad weather would ruin our short holidays.
Thankfully the full force of the typhoon did not hit Kyoto, and we experienced the occasional showers.
Rain or not, we were not about to waste the trip. We have our brolly and raincoat ready.
But where is our train???
Train finally came after my lamenting.
We wanted to visit Mount Heizan but because of the bad weather, we were late upon reaching the cable station. We decided against going up since we could not fully utilise the available time.
No sightseeing, so shopping it is.
No better place to shop than at Shoji-dori...
...and Shinkyogoku
How I love the b&w effect of the Olympus.
Walking along Teramachi.
A wide shot of the lanterns.
The colours literally pop-out with the pop art filter.
Trying sepia here.
Bringing retro colours to the 'claw' toy machine.
Hmmm... a Hummer?
Caricature shop.
Interesting graffiti but I was more impressed with the photo captured under low light condition.
Love the colours of this shop.
I am pretty happy with the EP3 and the lenses that I have. It is indeed a worthy upgrade, although initially I thought the EP3 looked like a toy camera. The two lenses, a 12mm and a 25mm, are really sharp at wide open. They work great under low lights and cut away the need for the flash. The art filters are fun to use too, with amazing effects and results. Overall, I am happy with the switch, and looking forward to more adventures in Kyoto.
And another travel trip awaiting....
