S o k c h o

Yes, the Korean-crazy couple is back to their favourite country for an early autumn retreat. We miss the cold weather, the exciting shopping and definitely the sumptious food. We spent 9 days visiting new places and revisiting some of our favourite hunts in this trip. Somehow, we never got sick of Korea. It is such a lovely country.

At the top of my itinerary is the visit to Mount Seorak. This is the popular place to see autumn leaves, and the throng of visitors going there for the same reason.
We took the coach from Dong Seoul Bus Terminal to Sokcho, the gateway to Mount Seorak.

The two & half hour bus ride was comfortable, with a toilet break in between.

There are some amazing views along the way too.
We reached Sokcho slightly after noon. We wanted to visit the town area, and instead of heading straight up to the mountains, we spent a night at Sokcho.
 Sokcho Squid Market
 Squid hanging out to dry
 Locals casting a catch
 Wife capturing the local scene.
 Heading for the Sokcho bridges.
A nice sunny but cold day.
 Span of the bridge.
 Mount Seorak on the background.
From a distance, the waves looked mighty strong.
 Trying his luck here.
 Double Light house.
Gaebae Boat, where one uses manual power to pull the boat across the river.
If no one else is on board, you are on your own, regardless of gender or age.
Korean drama 'Autumn In My Heart' was filmed here.
The place become popular after the drama debuted in year 2000.
 Caricature art pieces.
We took a long walk towards Sokcho beach.
No one is swimming in Autumn
 Family in tow
A great day for family outing.

  A lone island.
I mentioned earlier, the waves appear strong from a distance. When we got closer, we could feel the ferocity of mother nature.
The waves kept on hitting the shores, row after row. With each incoming wave, it got stronger with the pace. I wouldn't want to be in the water.

We took a night flight and got into Seoul in the morning. It is mid-day and we could hardly stay awake. We are like walking zombies, staggering on our feet. After loitering around Sokcho beach, it was time to check into the pension for an early rest. It is going to be an exciting climb up Mount Seorak tomorrow, and I am so looking forward to it.

And another travel trip awaiting....
