We did a self-drive holiday in Perth, Western Australia in the early winter month of June. We travelled there with a couple and their 2-year old toddler for a week. Owing to different priorities, we decided to venture beyond Perth, while the friends stayed behind. Here is My Travel Route.
We drove 5 hours to Albany, south of Perth. The long drive was rewarded when we saw how lovely our B&B cottage is. Our wonderful host put us in a sea facing room and we simply loved the scones & tea that she prepared. It certainly warmth our tired and cold bodies.
Albany Town Hall - Our cottage is close to the town central, and we left our car behind to venture the town by foot.
Scots Uniting Church
Desert Mounted Corp Memorial - We drove up to Mount Clarence the next morning to catch a glimpse of the bay. But the weather was too cold to stay a little longer.
Princess Royal Harbour
Rough coast of Albany
We visited the Valley of the Giants at Denmark, where we did the treetop walk. It was a frightening experience for Sharon, as she hung on hard to me and the rail. Not advisable for people suffering from vertigo, I guess.
One of the many giants
Does it look more like the talking tree from Wizard of Oz or Jabba the Hut? Hmmmm...
The weather was really bad as we left Pemberton. The relentless rain kept pelting on the car and made visibility limited.
Thank God the weather become better when we moved further north. I would really have cursed if I could not get some shots of the famous Busselton Jetty, the longest wooden jetty in the southern hemisphere.
It was a hit & run kind of a day, getting quickly ahead of the bad weather before it hit us. Nonetheless, I got to see what I have set out for. Phew.
Luxurious marina house at Mandurah
Not only are the houses big, so too are their private boats.
We arrived at Fremantle enroute to Perth. The wife finally has a chance to shop after days of sightseeing.

We gone one circle and back to Perth, where we met up our friends. We stayed at a nice apartment along Mount Street, with King's Park just close by. Part of Perth skyscrapers as viewed from King's park.
View of Swan River
I took a morning stroll and come across these trees lining along Fraser Avenue. I did not do justice to the picture as a wider angle would have captured a better perspective of the scenery.
Caught this Siamese cat stealing a glance at me. Before I could take another few steps, it sprinted off like Carl Lewis. Sigh.
We spent the remaining days exploring Perth and it surroundings. We found some nice beach front houses that I believed might actually belonged to Singaporeans, since Perth is a popular destination due to its closed proximity.
It is a lovely morning. After a hearty breakfast at The Miami Bakehouse, where they served delicious pies, we drove and chance upon this park.
Smallie is excited over the seagull just as they are over him, perhaps hoping for a free meal.
Our travel companions and dearest friends
Perth is a nice place to take refuge from the hot weather of Singapore in June. It is quiet, but too quiet for my likings. You do get a sense of space compared to our concrete jungle, and I certainly enjoyed the food and drinks that the wine country has to offer.
And another travel trip awaiting....
